About the Foundation

What is the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Foundation Inc.?
The Foundation is an independent, nonprofit arm of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. It was launched in 1985 as the Fund for the Advancement of the State System of Higher Education, Inc. In 2004, the Fund was renamed the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Foundation Inc. to reflect its expanding fundraising initiatives and growing partnerships to meet the changing needs of Pennsylvanians.

What relationship does the Foundation have with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education?
While PASSHE is an integral part of the Foundation's name and the Foundation supports PASSHE's goals, it operates independently and is governed by its own board of directors. The Foundation is directly responsible to its board.

What does the Foundation do with its funds?
The Foundation supports students at the 14 PASSHE universities through multiple scholarship programs. Our Board and staff constantly look for ways to fund other projects that fulfill the Foundation's mission.

Does the Foundation receive any state funding?
The Foundation is independent of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and does not receive an appropriation from the Commonwealth.
